2012 Diary

7th January

Inspiration Day –*an opportunity to encourage and support Long Draw Spinning, to seek advice, share experiences and network. A typical day can include a talking table, explaining your latest projects, an advice clinic, a talk / workshop on a pre-agreed topic, a shared lunch and a spin – in.

Produce a hank of yarn to help the Great Wheel Fund.

4th February

Woolsack – Stuffing station for 2012 Olympics. Open to all who are making a cushion from British wool as a welcome gift to the 2012 athletes.

Inspiration Day *

3rd March

Inspiration Day* - followed at 2pm by Linzi Mason of the Alpaca Spinner talking about Drop Spindle Spinning. She will bring some more unusual spindles and all materials needed for a “Have a Go” session. You can bring your own spindles and fibres if you would like to. About 11/2 hours.

31st March

Visit to Griffiths Mini Mill. Meet at the mill or travel in pre-arranged car shares. Groups of 10 at a time will be shown around the mill with Karen and David Griffiths. This family business processes small batches of fleece, and will scourer, card and woollen spin fibres. Processed fibre, batts, rovings and spun yarn are on sale subject to availability. Griffiths Mill, Glebe Cottage, Flackettes Lane, Sudbury, DE6 5HX, is located in the Derbyshire Dales just off the A50 midway between the M6 and M1. Entrance cost is £2.50 each to include coffee and cakes. For those who want a lift or can share your car do get in touch as soon as possible. The National Trust Museum of Childhood is close by, we could meet for a light lunch nearby, or go for a walk weather permitting to make full use of the day.

Afternoon visit to ”Windy Ridge”, Desborough Road, Harrinngton, Northants to see Eve Newcombe-Baker’s Zwartbles and Jacobs sheep followed by refreshments.

AWSD National Exhibition, based at the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Singleton, Chichester, PO18 DEU

4th August

Fleeces Bring and Buy – with Table-Top Sales and Inspiration Day *10am-4pm.Venue to be confirmed as Wilbarston Village Hall. There will be an inspection table to help select and identify fleeces, which need to be labelled with name, address and sheep details to make them traceable. We hope to include a second hand equipment and materials stall, GOLDS themed tombola, produce and cakes stall and of course refreshments. Stalls can be pre-booked. Last year the Great Wheel was a popular attraction and we hoping for a return visit.

Celebration of Spinning – Open Day with exhibitions of work, short spinning tuition sessions, refreshments.

Christmas Inspiration Day* - Everything is coming up Christmassy
